Archive By Alexa| Marks and Spencer

The highly anticipated launch of Alexa Chung’s debut collection for Marks and Spencer has finally launched and clothes flew off the rails as soon as they hit the stores.

“Archive by Alexa” manages to nod to a more traditional style, but with modernity, simplicity and a hint of sexiness.  Something that Alexa herself always manages to achieve in her own fashion choices, making her the British style icon that she is.

Her 31 piece collection is based upon original achieve pieces, handpicked and curated by Alexa and brought back to life with a modern twist.

By carefully selecting fabrics, patterns and colour choices she’s managed to update a historical collection for the contemporary woman with the ability to have these pieces work within a modern wardrobe.

Here are my 5 must have pieces from the collection:

The Frances Trench £89.00

If this trench coat fitted my petite frame I would have snapped it up in a shot.  But it’s certainly cut to fit the taller lady with the hem of the coat grazing the top of the calves.  It’s sophisticated and very stylish.  I enviously looked on as beautiful tall ladies tried this coat on and rocked the look that is based upon the garbadine coat of the 1950’s.  Alas on me it was full length.  If you have some height it’s a must have.

The Harry Blouse £35.00

This Victorian blouse is inspired by Princess Diana and is a beautiful stylish piece to add to your wardrobe.  The pale pink colour is my preferred choice, because I feel with the high neck the white blouse version may get a bit grubby if you’re wearing any make up.  This is the way to update your white shirt this season.  The buttons up the back are just beautiful and really hit that romantic note.

The Elsie Dress £39.50

The Elsie dress as worn by Alexa herself at the launch is just so beautifully cut.  It’s flattering on everyone.  It is inspired from a 1960’s creation and it’s so fun and flirty.  The puff sleeves and tie neck make sure the style of the dress is kept demure even with its high hemline, but there’s no denying it, this is a sexy number with a nice subtlety to it.

The Ada Blazer £49.50

A nice simple addition to a wardrobe but with bags of personality.  This jacket is a great spring to summer time jacket, that’ll smarten a causal item up and give everything a nice tailored finish.  It’s beautifully cut and the big gold buttons make it look luxurious and expensive.

The Eliza Dress £45.00

The pattern on this dress is just beautiful, even more so when it’s on.  Its cut to a stunning flattering finish.  This is a wow dress and would really give great impact on an evening out in a pair of heels.  For a day time affair pair it with a clean pair of white trainers, although wallflowers need not apply!  The pattern was inspired by a 1950’s apron, and personally I think it translates really well.

    • It really is, I spent so much time looking through the collection and figuring out what would logistically work in my wardrobe. I love the Eliza dress but figured I don’t go out enough anymore to wear it as it should be worn so I went with more casual pieces that I could wear daily. I’ll have some outfit posts going up too. x

Hope all’s well. Onwards LondonMum. “O.”

  5. I am not a fan of Alexa Chung personally so I didn’t think I’d be a fan of her line but I love the Lydia skirt you are holding up in your picture, and there’s a few things I’ve seen online that I’m interested in

    • I’m neither here nor there with Alexa, she’s just a personality and does well for herself but I don’t think she’s overly impacted me as a person. But I just love the collection! The lady sure does have style!

    • I LOVE the trench, so gutted I’m just too short to pull it off! lol. x
